16.1 Workout

Recap:

It was a rough workout. Twenty minutes is long enough to break anyone's will. Sadly, one of the favorites was unable to compete due to illness, but we expect to see a great showing from Beefie in 16.2!

Two competitors surprisingly wanted another taste and decided to try for a few more reps. Dan and Iggy were easily able to increase their score and break the fabled 200 mark, which is even more impressive considering that they competed in CIRC the day before.

Brian, Neel, and Ankit turned in middle of the road performances and are eagerly hoping for a favorable 16.2 release!

Athlete Forecast Results
Pat With Pat's new unlimited wind, he should have no problem maintaining a decent pace through this workout. *DNF*
Ankit Ankit regularly does strict CTB pullups with ease, and 95# should not be a problem. The lunges and burpees may be the only obstacles for him. 156
Brian Brian like's longer wods that are better paced, so this may be up his alley. 168
Dan Expect to see quite a showing from Dan, all of these movements will suit him well. 215
Neel The trick for Neel here will be to find his pacing early on and stick to it. It's all about managing that rest to keep it at a minimum. Short quick sets. 130
Ignacio Ignacio is pretty well rounded, and loves a gruelling challenge. Expect to see some great pain face as he grinds through this. 208
16.2 Workout

Recap:

This workout was short and fun! Testing a little skill and a little strength. As usual, it looks as if round 2 is the round to beat.

This was a strange week for the open. Ankit and Neel forgot to post. If Neel had posted, he would have pushed his ranking above Ankit, without needing the tie breaker.

Pat and Brian decided to step up their training, and spend a week at high altitude preparing for 16.2, before descending a mile from the mountains.

Athlete Forecast Results
Pat With Pat's new unlimited wind, and great strength to weight ratio, he should fare well in this workout. The only catch is that he must attempt it at 5000 ft. altitude! 167
Ankit Ankit is strong, and good at toes to bar. The only question may be whether or not he has been maintaining his dubs. FAIL
Brian Brian loves cleans and toes to bar and should do well here. Again, the only catch is that he must attempt it at 5000 ft. altitude with Pat! 166
Dan Dan is the man, and should have no problem with any of these movements. Expect to see him push himself. 253
Neel Neel may run into difficulty with his dubs. It will be critical for him to maintain a decent pace, and stay calm. FAIL
Ignacio Iggy will do well with this workout, if his toes to bar hold up. 174
16.3 Workout

Recap:

This was a long and difficult 7 minutes. The grip was severely challenged, many people tore their hands, For most people, the limiting factor was definitely the Bar muscle ups. People who could do them, couldn't always string three together, which really slowed the pace down.
Still, it was nice to have a short quick burn, instead of a 20 minute endurance fest.

Athlete Forecast Results
Pat Pat is lean and strong. With a 1RM Snatch of well over bodyweight, the bar should pose no problem. Hopefully the bar muscle up is as easy or easier than ring muscle ups for pat. TBD
Ankit This workout should go well for Ankit, if he can pace it correctly. TBD
Brian Brian needs to find a rhythm with the snatches, and remember to have a strong kip and turnover on the bar muscle ups, this workout should go well for him. TBD
Dan If Dan can recover from his knee injury, expect to see quite a show. TBD
Neel Neel can move the weight, but the bar muscle ups may be challenging. He needs to get in some practice on the bar muscleups, and stay calm and focused. TBD
Ignacio Iggy is recovering from a knee injury, but if he can compete, the trick will be for him to maintain form on his bar muscle ups. TBD
16.4 Workout

Recap:

What a challenging workout! The first hurdle was the 55 deadlifts. At this weight and volume, having a good strategy and form was key. Bad form could cost you almost twice the energy through these 55 reps.

Once through the deadlifts, the wall balls seemed light as a feather, but the heart rates were sky high in some cases. Pacing and breathing helped were needed to stay calm

For many people, the last stop on this workout was the row. Having poor form, and a weak drive could make these 55 calories take twice as long. Those with more rowing experience could even recover a bit on the erg.

Handstand pushups were the final grind. Those who got there, had only a couple minutes to get as many reps as possible.

Athlete Forecast Results
Pat The deadlifts may pose a bit of a problem because of the high volume, but once through them, Pat should breeze through the rest of the workout. 177
Ankit The mental game will be important here for Ankit, all of the movements are very reasonable, and he should do well. TBD
Brian 194
Dan Assuming Dan's knee holds up, these movements should go very well for him. The row may be taxing, but once through it, he should knock out quite a few HSPUs. TBD
Neel Neel will have to contend with very heavy deadlifts. He needs to strategize this part and stick to his plan. 152
Ignacio Iggy also has to be careful not to aggravate his knee. The deadlifts will be a challenge, but once through he can grind out the rest of the workout. 151
16.5 Workout

Recap:

A classic repeat of 14.5 from 2014. I have yet to hear of someone who didn't pr. This was an easy workout to find places for improvement. A better rep breakup strategy, a countdown for each rest, better bar cycling, etc.

The people with the most effective strategies planned their rounds, reps, and rest ahead of time. Most people chose to breakup the first several rounds into 2's and 3's, then then go unbroken for the 9,6,3 rounds. Some people broke up the burpees, and some didn't. The rest really just served to keep the heartrate down, and excessive rest above 10 or 15 seconds was not very helpful.

This workout was 84 thrusters, and 84 burpees. Although you can redo it a second time, you may not be at 100%, so make the first attempt count!

Athlete Forecast Results
Pat Pat eats burpees for breakfast, and with his wind and strength to weight ratio, he should kill this. 16:03
Ankit It remains to be seen if this will be too much for his back or not. Get well Ankit. TBD
Brian Brian is looking forward to the thrusters, and dreading the burpees. Just minimize the rest and keep going. 15:41
Dan 84 Thrusters may be a bit much for Dan's knee. We will see Monday if he was able to do the workout or not. TBD
Neel A solid strategy to breaking up the reps will be key for Neel. Break them up, and chip away. TBD
Ignacio Iggy will definitely show his pain face as he grinds through this workout at an uncomfortably fast pace. 16:38
